    Rinse and soak the mixed dal (lentils) for at least 30 minutes if not already soaked. Drain and set aside.

    Finely chop the onion, tomatoes, green chilies, garlic, and ginger.

    Heat the vegetable oil in a large pan or pressure cooker over medium heat.

    Add cumin seeds and let them splutter for a few seconds.
