Rinse 200g arhar dal thoroughly under running water and soak it for 20 minutes.
Rinse 200g rice until the water runs clear, then soak for 15 minutes.
In a pressure cooker, add the soaked arhar dal, 3 cups of water, 1 teaspoon haldi, and 1 teaspoon salt. Pressure cook for 3-4 whistles or until the dal is soft.
While the dal is cooking, heat 1 tablespoon (15g) mustard oil in a pan. Add 1 teaspoon jeera and let it splutter.
Add
5 teaspoon lal mirch and 1 teaspoon dhaniya powder to the oil. Sauté for 30 seconds on low flame.
Pour the cooked dal into the pan with the spices. Mix well and simmer for 5 minutes. Adjust salt if needed.
For the rice, drain the soaked rice and add it to a pot with 2 cups of water and a pinch of salt. Bring to a boil, then cover and simmer on low heat until the rice is cooked and water is absorbed (about 12-15 minutes).
Fluff the rice with a fork and serve hot with the spicy arhar dal.
