Spicy Arhar Dal with Jeera Rice

Rinse 200g arhar dal thoroughly under running water and soak it for 20 minutes.

Rinse 200g rice until the water runs clear, then soak for 15 minutes.

In a pressure cooker, add the soaked arhar dal, 3 cups of water, 1 teaspoon haldi, and 1 teaspoon salt. Pressure cook for 3-4 whistles or until the dal is soft.

While the dal is cooking, heat 1 tablespoon (15g) mustard oil in a pan. Add 1 teaspoon jeera and let it splutter.

For the rice, drain the soaked rice and add it to a pot with 2 cups of water and a pinch of salt. Bring to a boil, then cover and simmer on low heat until the rice is cooked and water is absorbed (about 12-15 minutes).
