Rinse the toor dal thoroughly under running water and soak it for about 30 minutes.

In a pressure cooker, add the soaked toor dal, chopped tomatoes, chopped onion, green chilies, turmeric powder, and enough water to cover the ingredients. Pressure cook for 3-4 whistles until the dal is soft.

Once the pressure releases, mash the dal mixture slightly with a ladle.

In a separate pan, heat oil over medium heat. Add mustard seeds and let them splutter.

Add cumin seeds, dried red chilies, and curry leaves. Sauté for a few seconds until fragrant.

Add the cooked dal mixture to the pan. Stir well and add red chili powder and salt to taste.
