Soak the Korean rice cakes (tteok) in warm water for about 10 minutes to soften them.

Add the gochujang (Korean red chili paste), gochugaru (Korean red chili flakes), soy sauce, sugar, and minced garlic to the boiling water. Stir well to combine.
