Rinse the rice and urad dal separately in water until the water runs clear.
Soak the rice and urad dal separately in water for at least 4 hours.
Drain the soaked rice and urad dal. Grind them separately to a smooth batter using a little water.
Mix both batters together in a large bowl. Add salt and mix well. Cover and let it ferment overnight or for 8-12 hours.
Finely chop the onions and green chilies. Set aside.
Once the batter is fermented, stir it gently.
Heat a non-stick pan or griddle over medium heat and grease it lightly with oil.
Pour a ladleful of batter onto the pan and spread it gently to form a thick pancake.
Sprinkle chopped onions, green chilies, and coriander leaves over the batter.
Drizzle a little oil around the edges and on top of the uttapam.
Cook until the base is golden brown and the top is cooked. Flip and cook the other side for a minute.
Remove from the pan and serve hot with chutney or sambar.
