Ayila Mulakittathu (Kerala Style Spicy Mackerel Curry)

- ginger-garlic paste1 tablespoon

- turmeric powder1 teaspoon
- coriander powder1 teaspoon
- tamarind water1 cup

Clean and cut the mackerel into pieces. Set aside.

Heat coconut oil in a pan over medium heat. Add mustard seeds and let them splutter.

Add curry leaves, sliced onions, and slit green chilies. Sauté until the onions turn golden brown.

Add ginger-garlic paste and sauté for a minute until the raw smell disappears.

Add chopped tomatoes and cook until they become soft and mushy.

Add red chili powder, turmeric powder, and coriander powder. Mix well and sauté for a minute.

Pour in the tamarind water and bring the mixture to a boil.

Add the mackerel pieces and salt to taste. Cover and cook on low heat for about 10-15 minutes or until the fish is cooked through.
