Rinse the moong dal thoroughly under running water until the water runs clear.

In a pot, add the rinsed moong dal and 500ml of water. Bring it to a boil, then reduce the heat and let it simmer until the dal is soft and cooked.

In a separate pan, heat 1 tablespoon of ghee over medium heat.

Add 1 teaspoon of cumin seeds to the hot ghee and let them splutter.

Add the finely chopped onion and sauté until it turns golden brown.

Add the chopped tomatoes and cook until they become soft and mushy.
