Ingredients

Rinse the split moong daal thoroughly under running water until the water runs clear.

In a pot, add the rinsed daal and 500ml of water. Bring it to a boil, then reduce the heat and let it simmer until the daal is soft and cooked through.

In a separate pan, heat 1 tablespoon of ghee over medium heat.

Add 1 teaspoon of cumin seeds to the hot ghee and let them splutter.

Add the finely chopped onion and sauté until it turns golden brown.

Add the chopped tomatoes, turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt to taste. Cook until the tomatoes are soft and the oil starts to separate.
