Classic Blackened Chicken
Ingredients
4 Servings
- boneless, skinless chicken breasts4 pieces
- paprika2 tablespoons
- onion powder1 tablespoon
- garlic powder1 teaspoon
- dried thyme1 teaspoon
- dried oregano1 teaspoon
- cayenne pepper1 teaspoon
- ground black pepper1 teaspoon
- salt1 teaspoon
- olive oil2 tablespoons
Instructions
- 1
In a small bowl, combine the paprika, onion powder, garlic powder, dried thyme, dried oregano, cayenne pepper, ground black pepper, and salt to create the blackening spice mix.
- 2
Pat the chicken breasts dry with paper towels to ensure proper seasoning adhesion.
- 3
Rub the spice mix generously onto both sides of the chicken breasts, pressing it into the meat to coat evenly.
- 4
Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat until it is shimmering but not smoking.
- 5
Place the chicken breasts in the skillet and cook for about 5-7 minutes on each side, or until the chicken is blackened on the outside and reaches an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C).
- 6
Once cooked, remove the chicken from the skillet and let it rest for a few minutes before slicing. This allows the juices to redistribute throughout the meat, ensuring a moist and flavorful result.
- 7
Serve the blackened chicken hot, garnished with fresh herbs if desired.
