Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the dry spaghetti and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Reserve 1/2 cup of pasta water, then drain the pasta.

While the pasta is cooking, peel and thinly slice the onions and garlic cloves.

Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and sauté for 6-8 minutes, stirring occasionally, until soft and golden.

Add the sliced garlic and chilli flakes to the skillet. Cook for 1-2 minutes, stirring constantly, until fragrant but not browned.

Add the drained spaghetti to the skillet with the onions, garlic, and chilli flakes. Toss well to combine, adding a splash of reserved pasta water if needed to loosen the sauce.
