Rinse the toor dal thoroughly and cook it in a pressure cooker with 2 cups of water until soft.

Once cooked, mash the dal and set it aside.

In a pan, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat.

Add mustard seeds and let them splutter.

Add cumin seeds, black pepper, and green chilies. Sauté for a minute.
