- warm water160 ml
- vegetable oil15 ml
- young jackfruit (canned, drained)200 g
- barbecue sauce40 g
- red cabbage20 g
- green onions10 g
Instructions
- 1
In a large bowl, combine 320g all-purpose flour, 7g instant yeast, and 30g sugar. Mix well.
- 2
Add 160ml warm water and 15ml vegetable oil to the dry ingredients. Stir until a dough forms.
- 3
Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 8-10 minutes, until smooth and elastic.
- 4
Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
- 5
While the dough is rising, prepare the jackfruit filling. Shred 200g young jackfruit with your hands or a fork.
- 6
Heat a non-stick pan over medium heat. Add the shredded jackfruit and 40g barbecue sauce. Cook for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the jackfruit is heated through and well coated. Set aside.
- 7
Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 8 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a ball, then flatten into an oval shape about 1cm thick.
- 8
Place a small piece of parchment paper under each oval. Fold each oval in half and gently press down.
- 9
Arrange the buns in a steamer basket, leaving space between each. Cover and let them rest for 15 minutes.
- 10
Steam the buns over boiling water for 10-12 minutes, until puffed and cooked through.
- 11
Carefully remove the buns from the steamer. Open each bun and fill with BBQ jackfruit, thinly sliced 20g red cabbage, and 10g chopped green onions.
- 12
Serve the BBQ Jackfruit Bao Buns warm and enjoy!
