Ingredients

4 Servings
  • maida (all-purpose flour)200 g
  • mozzarella cheese120 g
  • onions2 medium (about 150 g total)
  • eggs2 pieces
  • tomato sauce120 ml
  • olive oil1 tbsp
  • black pepper1 tsp
  • salt1 tsp

Instructions

  1. 1

Preheat your oven to 200°C (392°F). Line a baking tray with parchment paper.

  2. 2

In a large bowl, combine 200 g maida (all-purpose flour) and 1 tsp salt. Make a well in the center and add 1 egg. Gradually add about 80 ml water, mixing until a soft dough forms. Knead for 5-7 minutes until smooth. Cover and let rest for 20 minutes.

  3. 3

While the dough rests, peel and thinly slice the 2 medium onions. Heat 1 tbsp olive oil in a pan over medium heat. Add the onions and sauté until soft and lightly golden, about 8 minutes. Season with 1 tsp black pepper and set aside to cool.

  4. 4

Grate or slice 120 g mozzarella cheese. Set aside.

  5. 5

Divide the rested dough into 4 equal portions. Roll each portion into a ball, then roll out each ball into a circle about 15 cm in diameter.

  6. 6

Spread 30 ml tomato sauce on half of each dough circle, leaving a border. Top with sautéed onions and 30 g mozzarella cheese per calzone.

  7. 7

Fold the dough over the filling to form a half-moon shape. Press the edges to seal, then crimp with a fork.

  8. 8

Beat the remaining egg and brush it over the tops of the calzones for a golden finish.

  9. 9

Place the calzones on the prepared baking tray. Bake in the preheated oven for 18-22 minutes, or until golden brown and cooked through.

  10. 10

Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before serving. Enjoy your Mozzarella and Onion Calzones!
