1Peel and cut the potatoes into evenly sized chunks.
Place the potatoes in a large pot and cover with cold water. Add a pinch of salt.
Bring the water to a boil over medium-high heat, then reduce the heat to a simmer. Cook until the potatoes are tender, about 15-20 minutes.
While the potatoes are cooking, melt the butter in a small saucepan over low heat. Add the minced garlic and cook until fragrant, about 1-2 minutes. Be careful not to burn the garlic.
Drain the potatoes and return them to the pot.
Add the melted butter and garlic mixture to the potatoes.
Mash the potatoes using a potato masher or fork until smooth.
Gradually add the milk, mashing and stirring until the desired consistency is reached.
Season with salt and pepper to taste.
