Split the vanilla bean lengthwise and scrape out the seeds. Add both the seeds and the pod to the saucepan.

Remove the saucepan from the heat and let the mixture steep for about 30 minutes to infuse the vanilla flavor.
Remove the vanilla bean pod and discard it.
Chill the mixture in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours or until completely cold.
Pour the chilled mixture into an ice cream maker and churn according to the manufacturer's instructions.
Transfer the churned ice cream to a lidded container and freeze for at least 4 hours or until firm.
