Place the pie crust in a 9-inch pie dish and set aside.
In a medium saucepan, combine the granulated sugar and all-purpose flour.
Gradually stir in the heavy cream until the mixture is smooth.
Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the mixture thickens and comes to a boil.
Remove from heat and stir in the unsalted butter and vanilla extract until the butter is melted and the mixture is well combined.
Pour the filling into the prepared pie crust.
Sprinkle the ground nutmeg evenly over the top of the filling.
Bake in the preheated oven for 10 minutes.
Reduce the oven temperature to 350°F (175°C) and continue baking for an additional 30-35 minutes, or until the filling is set and the top is golden brown.
