In a mixing bowl, combine the whole wheat flour, gram flour (besan), turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt. Mix well.

Add water gradually to the flour mixture and knead into a soft dough. Cover and set aside for 15 minutes.

Divide the dough into small portions and roll each portion into thin discs. Cut the discs into small diamond or square shapes to make dhoklis.

Heat oil in a pan over medium heat. Add cumin seeds, mustard seeds, and asafoetida. Let them splutter.

Add 4 cups of water to the pan and bring it to a boil.

Gently add the dhoklis to the boiling water. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking.
