Rinse the yellow lentils thoroughly under running water until the water runs clear.

In a pot, add the lentils and 600ml of water. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat and let it simmer until the lentils are soft and cooked, about 20-25 minutes.

In a separate pan, heat the ghee over medium heat. Add the cumin seeds and let them splutter.

Add the chopped onion to the pan and sauté until golden brown.

Add the chopped tomatoes, turmeric powder, and red chili powder. Cook until the tomatoes are soft and the oil starts to separate from the mixture.

Add the cooked lentils to the pan and mix well. Add salt to taste and let it simmer for another 5-10 minutes.
