Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat.
Add the chopped onion to the skillet and sauté until translucent.
In a large mixing bowl, combine the rice, milk, Lipton onion soup mix, and sautéed onions. Mix well.
Pour the rice mixture into a greased 9x13 inch baking dish.
Place the pork chops on top of the rice mixture.
Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 45 minutes.
Remove the foil and sprinkle the shredded cheese over the top of the pork chops.
Return the dish to the oven and bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
