1Rinse the rice under cold water until the water runs clear.
Peel and finely chop the onions.
Peel and mince the garlic cloves.
In a medium pot, add the rice and 4 cups of water.
Add the chopped onions, minced garlic, and salt to the pot.
Bring the mixture to a boil over medium-high heat.
Once boiling, reduce the heat to low, cover the pot, and let it simmer for 18-20 minutes, or until the rice is tender and the water is absorbed.
Remove the pot from heat and let it sit, covered, for an additional 5 minutes.
Fluff the rice with a fork and serve hot.
