1Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F) and grease two 9-inch round cake pans.
In a medium bowl, sift together the all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, and baking powder. Set aside.
In a large bowl, cream the unsalted butter and granulated sugar together until light and fluffy.
Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
Mix in the vanilla extract and red food coloring until well combined.
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with the buttermilk, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.
Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans.
Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cakes comes out clean.
Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then turn them out onto a wire rack to cool completely.
Once cooled, frost with your favorite cream cheese frosting and serve.
